I had this grand idea of doing this cool video drawing for the XBOX I am giving away but never got around to doing it, but was set on only posting the results by video, and it had to be a cool video. So that is my reason and excuse for not revealing the big winner... literally BIG winner.

I really can't believe it actually. The winner of this thing has been a wise guy about it while everyone else for the most part have kept their typing to a minimum. With his every post I chuckled and thought to myself... its going to be really funny if this guy wins.

M.I.A. Big time.

Blogs take work for sure. They take dedication, something I once had but this blog pulled it right out from under my feet. I lost my balance but I think I just caught myself and am squeezing with my hands and pulling with my arms.

I miss writing and am gearing up for letting a whole bunch of stuff out. Let me start with this.

Introspection is the self-observation and reporting of conscious inner thoughts, desires and sensations. It is a conscious mental and usually purposive process relying on thinking, reasoning, and examining one's own thoughts, feelings, and, in more spiritual cases, one's soul.

I would like to think that 90% of people now a days are tricked into outward thought. Everything from television to movies to the internet plant seeds of "tangible realness" (what I'll call it).

"What you can see is what is real and it is apart from you but you need it in hand to make you feel whole. So, you do what you need to do to get it!"

This is what I see everywhere, in everyone, even in myself at times, most of the time. It makes me sad and angry. We've been lied to and its too easy for us to eat those lies up. Its easy. Its like fast food. It will kill you. It will kill your family. It will kill your relationships. It will kill the only thing that is important, your soul and if it kills your soul then it kills my soul. What you do affects me and what I do affects you.

Turn off your cell phones, your televisions, your I-Pods, smash your computer screen (well, just visualize that one).

It's about time you connect with your inner self, with WHO you are and WHY you are.

When everything is quiet. Listen to yourself. Listen to your mind. Listen to your heart. Realize what IS important and what ISN'T important. Then make changes.

This life is passing quickly. Our lives are on a downward slope. Busyness ignites velocity. Slow yourself down. Take a walk alone or with a loved one. Talk. Talk about what is going on inside of you. You are worth it. We are all worth it.

Winter. I don't like it. Every January I end up diving head first into thick cold mud that freezes over and chokes the breath out of me. I get caught in a struggle to give in or to be a bad ass and fight my way out of it. Daily. (excuse my language, my blog isn't for kids anyway)

Motivation. Dies at this time of year and it is somewhat of a mystery why. Is it the weather? Is it being cooped up inside for too many hours, too many days in a row? Is it the fact that everything around has been dead and brown for months?

Creativity. Is lost among the typing and computer screen staring. It want's to break through and show its sweet little face but when it gets close I see it as something ugly and useless and boring and worthless and and and.

Attitude. So up and down. I guess that is because of the 'do I give in' ' do I fight it out' battle. I don't know which end is up. I don't know where to put my time, who to give my time to. I get frustrated when other people get all worked up about me not giving my time to them when I have a family who needs my time so much more. I get frustrated cause I want to take some of the time my family needs of me and keep it for myself. I feel guilty either way.

Winter. I can't wait for spring.

My little buster gave us a big scare (along with the doctors) for the last few days. He was admitted for 3 days at Childrens Hospital in Denver. (transferred by ambulance from Longmont ER) He had a really bad infection in his stomach under his belly button...he was pumped full of antibiotics to keep it from spreading into his blood stream and after a few back and forth conversations about surgery he stabilized and got much better fairly quickly so no surgery was needed, as of yet. He has a couple appointments over the next week and a half to make sure he's 100%.

Things can change so fast. So fast.

Weekend Getaway

Our weekend getaway was amazing. We stayed in town but got two full days and one night free from our little Olive and Boston. I feel so relaxed right now as I type these words. It's amazing what some good sleep and time lounging can do for you.

Saturday and Sunday was filled with:

/a few sit down coffee breaks broken up between Starbucks and Peets Coffee

/a pair of Levis bought at Levis

/lunch at a great Italian restaurant called Pasta Jays on Pearl Street in Boulder

/some trading at Goldmine Vintage of vintage Tees for a fuschia colored Wayne Newton Tee with an awesome sparkling

eagle, a great 80's ski vest, and an amazing red

80's jacket that will take your breath away and rad 80's dress for Tess. (i'll post some shots of these great

finds.

/caught a flick called "Quantum of Solace"- which was awesome. Been waiting

for it since Casino Royale.

/had dinner at Cantina Laredo...great Mexican food!

/actually went to church together as husband and wife for the first

time since Boston was born 9 weeks ago! So refreshing! Can't wait

until next Sunday.

/gave Tess a first round of highlights in her hair.

I am thankful for these two days more than I ever thought I'd be.

Another great music project I happened upon one day at work while looking for some inspiration and distraction. Coconut Records has become a favorite of mine. Jason Schwartzman is the dude behind the magic. You might recognize him from The Darjeeling Limited or I Heart Huckabees if you had seen those great flicks.

After discovering Coconut on myspace I quickly and too eaily purchased the album on Itunes with one click accuracy. (Itunes. Hate it and love it)

So much variety on this album. You just have to tap your foot or nod your head in a rhythmic fashion. Listen to the subtle sounds in each song. Some will cause you to grab a partner and waltz, some are stripped acoustic/folk and some linger on the edge of being too poppy but then the perfect guitar tone comes alive to even out the weight and add some timelessness.

I don't normally go for catchy stuff but...

here it comes...

Peace Like a River - Leif Enger

I just finished this book and would love to recommend it to you.

Here is an Amazon link to it. (i always buy used books, much cheaper)

Anyways...amazing book. Leif has such a flowing writing style. I found myself relaxed as I read each page, soaking in the beautiful language and simple imagery. I felt as if the characters were real and found myself caring about them and always wanting more information about them. A plot that meanders and seems slightly vague gets pulled together at the end in a way that is unexpected.

It has become one of my favorite books. Check it out.

After much research on the web I have concluded that I am allergic to some ingredients of beer. (some beer, all beer, I don't know yet) I'm going to have to get tested for yeast, hops, gluten...etc. You see recently I have been getting extremely sick 6-8 hours after having a beer...ONE beer. Nauseous, violent vomiting, headache, body ache all of which lasts for hours. Slowly I have caught on to the pattern which is actually quite common.

This bums me out since I live just miles from my favorite brewing company, New Belgium, and have found my all time favorite beer as of now, Abbey. hmm.

Restoration: The Beginning. The Breakdown.

It doesn't take much. Just the right sounds, the right smell, the right vision that will act as a trigger to bring back the past and place it in the present. I've seen it in movies quite often. The camera focuses in on a characters face, a close of of his eyes and then pans towards what that character has seen and from there we teleport back into the characters history. A scene unfolds as a smeared thought, whether it be good or bad. Something triggered a memory that might have been buried.

I joyfully admit that Winnie the Pooh was in the movie rotation of my childhood. I vividly remember specific scenes that involved the Pooh Crew. I would hope every mom would introduce the Hundred Acre Wood to their child. It's a magical place and thats okay.

My mom was always Piglet. She worried, she loved. I was most definitely Tigger, I had the energy of most little boys. Bouncing around, into and off of things. It was great. My little brother was Pooh, he was a pot bellied little baby bear. And I remember that my dad was Eeyore at this time of my life. At least I recall that was what my mom would tell me. You see, my dad unfortunately wasn't around all that much before he gave his life to the Lord (which was sometime between my age of 3 to 4). Memories of him and my mom arguing have been slowly resurfacing. I remember my mom telling me that Dad was being a little like Eeyore. Specifically I could hear her remind me that Piglet and Tigger and Pooh and everyone else (even Christopher Robin) still loved Eeyore.

This made so much sense to me at the time and I believe helped me cope with feelings I had but couldn't describe as a child. I would get frustrated with Eeyore, I felt bad every time his stick house collapsed, I wanted him to be included in all the adventures the other stuffed animals had. I wanted him to be joyful and purposeful. I didn't want him to be sad and complain. I loved Eeyore and wanted to give him a hug. I had told my mom that I never wanted to be like Eeyore. I didn't want to be sad like my dad was.

"You're kind of like Eeyore." The phrase hit me harder and more significantly than the person who said it would have ever imagined. It was supposed to be something cute. I didn't know why at first, but I tried hard not let tears break through. I kind of felt sick and wanted to throw up. I was glad that I had only a few more minutes left at work. On my way home I looked in my rear view mirror and finally saw the heavy chains around my neck that have been there for a long while. I was kind of confused as these memories from childhood started coming back to me. I felt as though I was in a movie seeing my past in black and white. I became more emotional then I have been in years all because of a seemingly harmless phrase, a description of my character, of what others around me saw.

All of a sudden I could see so clearly how much of an impact I have on those around me. I had no idea that me wallowing in self pity about this wrong decision I had made or that situation I am in at work was leaking through to my everyday life. I was miserable. I have been miserable. All I could do at any moment was look at my stick house that had collapsed and find no hope in restoring it to the mansion that was really there all along. I had thought that the writer of my story had given up on me. I thought that He had left the rest of my book blank and placed a pen on the table right in front of me and waited for me to fail in writing the rest because the pen was dry, there was no ink left.

I have been broken. I have been emotional. I have been digging deep into motives, reasons, purpose, love, family and God.

I am so thankful for these triggers. I have never felt so much hope in my life.

“Father God,

This week, as the world looks on, help the leaders in this room create a civil dialogue about our future. We need you, God, as individuals and also as a nation. We need you to protect us from our enemies, but also from ourselves, because we are easily tempted toward apathy. Give us a passion to advance opportunities for the least of these, for widows and orphans, for single moms and children whose fathers have left. Give us the eyes to see them, and the ears to hear them, and hands willing to serve them. Help us serve people, not just causes. And stand up to specific injustices rather than vague notions. Give those in this room who have power, along with those who will meet next week, the courage to work together to finally provide health care to those who don’t have any, and a living wage so families can thrive rather than struggle. The DNC is in Denver...

5:45am, Saturday August 23rd. Throwing on a pair of jeans that I had worn the previous two days and a T-shirt that has seen better days I skip the Wheaties and head straight for a Starbucks breakfast. Picking up a chocholate biscotti and a double shot I point my Volvo towards Denver. The ride was nice, not many cars out that early so I was relaxed and in no hurry.

Pulling onto 20th I find a parking spot a block from Coors Field. There was a pre-autumn chill in the air. It felt as if I was heading to classes at the beginning of a school year, but I wasn't. I grabbed my satchel with my cameras hidden inside and start walking. I didn't have a plan. Just walked through the ghost town of a city with most everyone still warm and in bed. *Click* I broke the ice with shooting a wide photo straight down a city street while standing in the middle of an intersection. Walking and clicking. Placing the camera close to the ground, holding it above my head, holding it crooked close to a brick wall. I had 4 rolls of film I had to get through.

Since I wasn't too familiar with downtown Denver I slowly headed towards 16th Street, I've been there a few times and I didn't paticularly want to get lost. I get insanely frustrated when I get lost. Anyways, walking up 16th St. I encountered some homeless people selling old newspapers. I don't carry cash so I passed by with a hello and clicked off a hip shot of them. Working my way up towards the capital building I stopped in the World Trade Center courtyard. *Click* *Click*

"Whatcha taken pictures of?" I turn around to find two men in black suits. "Lines." I answer turning back towards the buildings and shooting off another photo. "Looks like your taking photos of these Banks. You have time for a few questions?" I didn't want to buy anything from these guys or take some survey or register to vote or whatever it was they wanted to ask me about, for some reason I said, "Sure."

While asking me what kind of camera I am using and if I develop my own film the older gent pulled out an FBI badge. "Damn, should of shaved my beard off this morning." I thought to myself while smiling and answering. "Its a vintage camera from Germany and I don't develop my own film yet." I felt like I was part of story line in a movie. They stood uncomfortably close to me. I didn't like that.

Questions kept pouring and I kept answering. One of them asked for my I.D. and stepped to the side to run my information while his partner conversed with me about photos, groups and work. He asked about what type of film my camera used and where I get it developed. He told me that a lot of people are part of groups and that it's okay if I am part of a group. "Nope, not part of a group." I told him. "I work at DPA Microphones." I said in a relaxed kind of way. "Microphones..." He went on to tell me he has his own recording studio and collects vintage tube microphones. In a couple of minutes we became friends in a "I'm sure I'll never see you again sort of way."

So, I got my license back and was sent off with an explained apology giving me a heads up about all the security that is being implimented over the course of the weekend and upcoming week because of the Democratic National Convention. Whoops.

Ha. A dude with a beard and a black hat, a ratty t-shirt and jeans that are too tight for him, taking pictures of the WTC in Denver was interogated by the FBI. I feel a little cooler.

---This has just broadsided me. I had distinct direction, passion, energy, hope.....can't wait to be back there again, I AM ON MY WAY:)

Im going to be getting a ring in the few weeks. ...right now me and Tess are deciding whether or not we're gonna get married in January or wait till next june. As of right now I think its gonna be in june('05) so it'll be an outdoor wedding in Colorado. Shes moving back there in a couple weeks and Im pretty sure she'll either comback for ten weeks in September so we can go through a Pre-marital-program-small-group-counseling thing or I'll move there and we'll find a church there that we'll be going to.

Its been all crazy how this has all worked out. it was all little steps of obedience and then God just runs with it and we're on for a ride. Its really been amazing. But right now we're trying to figure out what the best thing as far as timing.

My music is really getting awesome. Gods set a fire inside of me to play. I know He's gonna use it in awesome ways. So for this summer Im gonna be totally focused on writing music. He's brought some awesome people into my life that have inspired me and are willing to help me out with stuff.

Also Stupid Apple is turning out to be amazing. The visions that we thought were big are turning out so small compared to where I know God will bring it. Prayers are being answered in the craziest most amazing ways. So far this is the vision now:
-we're gonna have short films that will be available to youth groups and churches around the country.
-we're gonna have a web site that will pretty much be a place where kids (15-30) can read about anything relevant to life and faith.
-hopefully we will have a circulating bi-monthly magazine someday.
-we're going to carry on the skate ministry
-we're going to bring "Bite The Curb" ministries and also "Overflow Outreach" ministry to conferences around the U.S.
-Overflow Outreach is going to be an Orphanage type outreach that we will start in Africa and God willingly spread.

And the way things are happening is so crazy. the encouragment from people around us and the people who are willing to help. Crazy. People who have no clue about this are brought by God to help us with stuff. We've been praying recently about the legal stuff behind having a production company and also non-profit organizations. So this one random day at Starbucks, Im just working and this dude who is prbably late twenties maybe thirty who Ive talked to about my car comes up and asks me if I do the art work in the store, and I told him I did. Then he told me he just graduated and he's an attourney that specializes in businesses and copyrighting and hes willing to help us out with everything from my artwork, logos, my songs, our name...anything...all for free!! Its crazy. Came out of nowhere!! It started with my art work, then I told him I write music, then I told him about stupid apple!! And thats just one thing!! I met this other crazy awesome guy who just came out of film school in London, we've talked for weeks at work, (hes a customer) then I find out he's a Christian.

Anyways... All of this is years away...maybe 2 because of other priorities and also preperation that God has made evident. Its just going to snowball...if we're trustworthy with the small stuff, God will just keep adding!! One day we'll be getting youth skate ministries scattered around america evangelizing and decipling and sending these kids on mission trips to orphanages/schools/churches around the world all the while keeping Stupid Apple personal with our magazine and web site. Sounds nuts huh?!?! Its wierd though, I cant even imagine doing anything else with my life. Its so awesome!!

I dont know what the deal is but my MacPro is jacking stuff up. When it goes to sleep it doesnt wake up and then everything I worked on is lost even though I've got things set to automatically save every three minutes on all of my programs.

I wake up this morning and can't open my right eye. "What the hell" (Statement, not question). I rub my eye with my palm in a twisting fashion while making my way to the bathroom.

"Wow, that is shocking." I think to my self.

My eye is swollen and is covered in a yellow goo. Thinking straight at this moment I grab a nice white towel. Well, it's not a nice white towel any longer. I start inspecting at a comically close distance from the mirror. Blood shot and irritated, my seeing mechanism is presumably stressed out.

"Crap dude." I say that out loud in a slightly whining voice, elongating the pronunciation of "dude." I start running my finger over the surface of my eye ball which doesn't really bother me since I wear contacts occasionally. My eyes are used to being handled. "Ah." I wore contacts last night. But I knew I had taken them out.

"Ah, nice." Shaking my head as in agreement. I didn't actually see the one from my right eye pop out but only figured I had dropped it. It was midnight at the time and I held my hand up covering my left eye then switching to my right eye and everything was definitely blurry. "Boom. No contacts in my eyes. Lets go to bed." Thats what I say every time I take out my contacts. "Boom." Followed by "No contacts in my eyes. Lets go to bed."

Anyways, I start pulling my eyelids out and blink. I felt something. There is something there but I can't see it. I actually, no joke, jam my index finger underneath my eye. It's surprising how far you can go with this.

"Freakin sick." Emerging was a folded contact (I wear soft dailies). A folded piece of rubber/plastic emerging like a worm from underneath my eye. I didn't think it was possible for this to happen. I've always been afraid of my contact working its way behind my eye and causing some massive brain infection.

Life is short. It could be shorter because of soft dailies.

(After doing a bit of internet research I pulled this quote from a optometrists website. "If you think you have a contact lens someplace in your eye, and you can't find it, call your eyecare practitioner." — Dr. Dubow

Everybody needs to be right. The majority of the time, people don't listen, they just wait until they can say what they think will impress other people. They want to tell their story, they want to relate themselves to whatever is being said. Quite frankly I don't care.

Just frustrated because I don't think I have been a part of a meaningful conversation in a long time.

So, I picked this up a couple years ago at a thrift store because it looked cool. I decided to buy some old film on Ebay and try the thing out. It freakin works!! I love the thing. Here's a couple photos I have taken with it. I'm still learning how to use it.

I'd love to spend a summer in Maine. I could become a lobsterman for three months of the year. Waking up before dawn, fry some eggs, grab my cup of coffee, leave a note for the family and head for the docks. I would love that. Board a creaky wooden boat, catch my bearded reflection in the water below and breathe in the salted air. That would be wonderful. Drop traps for the first part of the day and pull traps the rest. Dock the boat just before evening and peel off my waterproof overalls. Yellow waterproof overalls. I'd look down the wooden walkway and see the smile on my wifes face as I bend down to hug my daughter. I'd take them to the pier for dinner and some salt water taffy. On the weekends we could search the beaches for driftwood and starfish. We could spend afternoons sitting beside famous lighthouses. We could have picnics and eat ice cream on a cone. With sprinkles, chocolate sprinkles. Thats what I would do if I could spend a summer in Maine.

So, I got four rolls back. There are some good pics among the 48.

I learned some stuff.

These don't have the over saturated color I was looking for since I realized that I need to shoot on Slide film and get it cross processed. Also, I need the lab to scan the negatives to disc for me so I don't have to scan my printed photos on my crappy scanner at work. Oh...and the lab crops wierd.

I'm all of a sudden really into photography, and even more so lomography. I picked up an old Diana+ a couple weeks ago and today I get to pick up a handful of rolls I just got developed. I can't wait. I think I might leave work early. I'll post'em all good or bad on my flickr page.

I had thought that I would enjoy filming and editing wedding videos to make some money, possibly make a good living off of it. I've got a friend who does. Well, found out it isn't my thing. Now I've got to figure out how to pay off all the crap I bought for my "wedding video" business. Hopefully something will come up, eh?

Thank you for showing me the great love you have for yourself. I felt it so strongly. I will forever remember what your state flag looks like, the star, gosh that star. And the roads, the on-ramps and off-ramps so well thought out and not in any way confusing, I just loved that asphalt of yours! There's your food... wonderful. Fast food everywhere, grease and staleness made my taste buds tingle and my belly jiggle. Oh, and thank you for purging my body of impurities through my sweat glands. The beautifully hot and humid weather was amazing! My shirts were stained with salt creating the most wonderful designs.

Thank you Texas for making me love Colorado so much more than I did last week. Tip of the hat.
